Ana Maria Mendieta is the founder and president of Midas Touch Institute, a “one-on-one” physical therapy clinic specializing in the treatment of lymphedema. Her dedication has received praise and recognition within this specialized field of care. She is also the founder of the Lymphedema Foundation of South Florida (LFSF), a non-profit organization, to help uninsured or underinsured women and men in need of lymphedema therapy treatments.
Ms. Mendieta earned her Masters degree in physical therapy from the University Of Miami School Of Medicine in 1989. She then gained experience working in different programs starting with pediatrics at a Boston facility for blind children, then to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s acute care, orthopedic, amputee, burn, pediatric care and spinal cord programs. This diverse experience has helped her develop superior therapeutic skills. She later continued her professional career at Baptist Hospital’s Sports Orthopedic facility. In 1997 Ms. Mendieta received her certification in “Manual Lymph Drainage and Complete Decongestive Physiotherapy” and launched Baptist’s first lymphedema program. She is currently a member of the Lymphology Association of North America (LANA).
Midas Touch Institute opened its doors in 2000. From the beginning, Ms. Mendieta’s commitment to providing optimal care for her patients’ physical and emotional recovery was (is) unwavering. She developed a yoga therapy breast cancer program as well as other alternative medicine programs to aid her clients in reaching their optimal health goal(s) in body and mind. Ms. Mendieta later established the Lymphedema Foundation of South Florida (LFSF). | Lymphedema Foundation of South Florida With this, she achieved one of her greatest and personal accomplishments, “to help those in need” who are unable to afford receiving the proper lymphedema care and treatment. The foundation has touched many lives and has helped a great number of women and men in our community. Ms. Mendieta believes that education and prevention is the key to control this condition. To that end, she participates in community events and conferences to discuss face-to-face with people this important topic.
